Gay Pride: What Does It Mean For A City?
The people that live in a city shape it in many ways. We shape our society and the way our community works each day. Even the LGBTQ people have shaped their cities in many ways as they are an integral part of the population.
While there is still a long way to achieve equity and equality, here are the many ways gay pride brings positive change to a city.
- More Acceptance
Cities where there are more LGBTQ communities, are more accepting of people from different backgrounds, classes, genders, sexual orientations, etc. It is normal for them to have such diversity, and they don't see it as something negative for their city. If we want to co-exist in peace, we need to accept each other for who we are.
That is, having gay pride in a city is incredibly important. It allows people to broaden their perspectives by tolerating and accepting more people in their community. A city that has acceptance as its core value will thrive for a long time.
- Equal Opportunities
People from the LGBTQ community face discrimination in almost all aspects of life. They get paid less, they have many barriers in terms of career progression, they are discriminated against and harassed at work, and much more. All these problems are just the tip of the iceberg.
If a city has a vast population of LGBTQ community, it will provide equal opportunities to everyone. That is because they can’t leave a massive chunk of the population out. That is why it is essential to celebrate gay pride each year, as it only emphasizes that everyone needs equal opportunities.
- Better Living Quality
If we want to develop and do better as a society, we need to be inclusive of everyone. Cities where people co-exist better and get along have higher standards of living as no one is driven by negative emotions. Living quality becomes better for each member as everyone wants the best for each other.
